Advent and Christmas are very special times at Embreeville. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas and is a season of anticipation and preparation for the coming of Jesus. Our children and youth Christmas play is always a great joy and the Christmas Eve Service is a special time to spiritually prepare for the season. The ringing of the church bells at midnight on Christmas Eve can be heard throughout the community as a celebration that Christmas Day is upon us.

Ash Wednesday Service
Ash Wednesday is a solemn day of prayer and penitence that begins the forty-day season of Lent. During Lent, we prepare for the celebration of the Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Lent is also a time when we journey with those in our community and around the world preparing for baptism at Easter. On Ash Wednesday, we confess our sin in a litany of penitence. During the forty days of Lent, we are invited to observe the traditional Lenten disciplines of fasting, prayer, and works of love. We receive the sign of ashes as an external mark of penitence. Ashes are an ancient symbol of repentance and mourning, reminding us of our mortality. We recall God’s words to Adam and Eve following their disobedience: “You are dust, and to dust you shall return.” The use of ashes also calls to mind the words of the funeral liturgy, “ashes to ashes, dust to dust.” |

A group gathering in the Fellowship hall with food, sack races and a cake walk. The fellowship hall was completed in late 2010, and is used for both church and community events. Events previously held there include movie nights, veterans meetings, birthdays, anniversaries, showers, wedding receptions, and dinners. |
The church met near the Nolichucky River to fish, play games, roast hot dogs, and fellowship with one another. Many members have been baptized in the river and many more have come to similar events in the past. We are fortunate be in such close proximity to the river, the mountains, and the other wonders of nature. |
Christmas plays are an annual tradition at Embreeville. Children, youth, and adults all participate. Christmas carols are sung and the fellowship continues with a meal after the various plays. Even Santa doesn't miss the Embreeville play, he stops by every year. |
